Fort Laramie Treaty

Fort Laramie Treaty signed by the Sioux Nation and the US government on April 29, 1868. The treaty was meant to limit US presence in the Black Hills, establishing the Army’s need for a fort in Omaha. In theory, the Black Hlls were given back to the Sioux, but intrusion by overlanders, goldrushers and the Army have broken the treaty.
