How to Obtain Your "Free" Copy of Microsoft Office

Overview

As part of your tuition to Metropolitan Community College (MCC), you are entitled to a copy of Microsoft Office. This handout will provide instructions on how to obtain your copy of Microsoft Office.

Instructions for Windows or Macintosh PC

Introduction

The current version of Microsoft Office for Windows is Office 2013. The current version of Office for Apple's OS X is Office 2011. Both Office 2013 and Office 2011 can be downloaded using these instructions:

Steps

1. Log on to your MCC Student Email Account using your MCC network username and MCC network password.

Remember if you're a student, your email address is in the format username@mail.mccneb.edu – only staff and faculty have email addresses that end with mccneb.edu

2. Once logged on to your student email, click the “Gear” icon to display the settings menu (Fig. 1).

3. When the Settings menu appears, click Office 365 settings* (Fig. 2).

4. The Office 365 settings page should appear. Click Software (Fig. 3).

5. A page will appear, which will display download options for Microsoft Office. Fig. 4 (below) shows what the page will look on a computer running Microsoft Windows. Fig. 5 (below) shows what the page will look like on a computer running OS X.

Once you download and install Microsoft Office, you will be prompted to log on to your Microsoft Account. Use your MCC network username and MCC network password to log on to Microsoft Office.

Instructions iPad or iPhone

Introduction

Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint are all available on iOS as individual applications. Each application must be downloaded from the App Store separately (one at a time). These instructions will demonstrate downloading and installing Microsoft Word for iOS. The same instructions will apply to downloading and installing Microsoft Excel for iOS and Microsoft PowerPoint for iOS.

Steps

1. On your iOS device, launch the App Store.

2. In the App Store, search for Microsoft Word (Fig. 6).

3. In the list of results, find Microsoft Word and tap the GET button to download Microsoft Word (Fig. 7).

4. Once Microsoft Word downloads and installs, launch it.

5. Once Microsoft Word launches, tap the Account button, then tap Sign in (Fig. 9).

6. Enter your MCC email account then tap Next (Fig. 10).

7. At the next screen, enter your MCC network password and tap Sign in (Fig. 11).

8. You are now signed into Microsoft Office. Your MCC OneDrive account should automatically appear in the list of Connected Services (Fig. 12). This will allow you to access files stored on your MCC OneDrive account.

Instructions for Android

Introduction

As of the writing of this handout, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint are not available for the Android platform. Android users can install and use the Microsoft Office Mobile application, though, which provides access to OneDrive and basic editing and viewing features of Microsoft Office documents.

Steps

1. On your Android device, launch the Google Play Store app.

2. In the Google Play Store, search for Microsoft Office Mobile

3. Install the Microsoft Office Mobile app as you would install any other Android application.

4. Once installed, launch the Microsoft Office Mobile app.

5. When prompted, sign into the Microsoft Office Mobile app using your MCC network username and MCC network password.
